Movie Review: ANNETTE

ANNETTE Director: Leos CaraxStarring: Adam Driver, Marion Cotillard, Simon Helberg Imagine if Marriage Story was turned into a performance art piece of rock opera theater. That’s the vibe I was getting with Annette, starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard. Driver and Cotillard’s characters are somewhat of a power couple both being performers with high acclaim. As Henry McHenry, Driver plays a stand-up comedian who’s not really funny but draws a large crowd for his angry stage antics. Marion Cotillard’s Anne is an accomplished soprano playing to sold out opera houses. There’s a bit of a power struggle as Henry’s a chauvinist who wants more ofRead More →

Movie Review: ALLIED

ALLIED Director: Robert Zemeckis Starring: Brad Pitt, Marion Cotillard, Jared Harris, Lizzy Caplan, Simon McBurney, Matthew Goode Brad Pitt stars in another World War II film following Inglourious Basterds and Fury. Unfortunately for him Allied is the weakest of the three. It’s 1942, and he stars as Max Vatan who parachutes down in the deserts of French Morocco. He’s picked up by a designated driver and given a passport and ID cards. He is dropped off at a swanky nightclub in Casablanca where he is to meet Marianne Beauséjour (Cotillard), a French resistance fighter who will be posing as his wife. Throughout their private conversationsRead More →

THE 19th ANNUAL SAG AWARD NOMINATIONS

THE 19th ANNUAL SAG AWARD NOMINATIONS The Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations have been announced! They are usually the strongest indicators of who will be nominated for an Oscar. The SAG winners often times walk away with the coveted Oscar as well. There are always exceptions to that as well. There are only a couple of surprises here. Javier Bardem and Nicole Kidman received nominations beating out the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Amy Adams, or Jacki Weaver. No actors from Django Unchained received any recognition. The cast of Zero Dark Thirty was not recognized even though Jessica Chastain received a Best Actress nomination.Read More →

Movie Review: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Director: Christopher Nolan Starring: Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, Matthew Modine All good things must come to end. Finding the proper send off to a beloved trilogy is tricky. The audience has spent the last two movies invested in classic characters and rich storytelling and you do not want to be let down by some lackluster finale. Audiences will not remember The Return of the Jedi or The Godfather Part III as the best in the series. However, I firmly believe The Lord of the Rings: The ReturnRead More →
