VARIETY – ACTORS ON ACTORS 2016

VARIETY – ACTORS ON ACTORS 2016 It’s that time of the year when Variety celebrates the exceptional films that are hitting theaters. They partner a variety of actors together to talk about their current films and what drives them in their career. I’ve watched quite a few so far and have plenty more to sit through. Some pairings work really well together (Tom Hanks and Viola Davis) while others feel a little off (Sorry, Sally Field!). Here are a few of them. If you want more, head over to Variety’s You Tube channel where they’ve posted all of them. Make sure to look for theRead More →

Movie Review: HELLO, MY NAME IS DORIS

HELLO, MY NAME IS DORIS Director: Michael Showalter Starring: Sally Field, Max Greenfield, Tyne Daly, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Stephen Root, Natasha Lyonne, Elizabeth Reaser, Peter Gallagher I am not ashamed to admit that I love Sally Field. Always have and always will. We’ve seen her giving life advice to Forrest Gump, putting Abraham Lincoln in his place, as a flying nun, Gidget, and Norma Rae. Hello, My Name is Doris is a completely different kind of film for her. After the death of her mother, Doris Miller seems a bit lost. She lived a simple life taking care of her mom and doing data entry workRead More →

Movie Review: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Director: Marc Webb Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Sally Field, Paul Giamatti, B.J. Novack, Campbell Scott, Denis Leary, Chris Cooper With the multitude of comic book movies released every year, the bar has been set pretty high with Marvel’s The Avengers and The Dark Knight trilogy. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the sequel to the reboot and technically the fifth Spidey tale since the release of 2002’s Spider-Man. Have I confused you yet? When we last saw our web-slinging hero, Captain Stacy (Leary) admits to Peter Parker (Garfield) that there is a need for Spider-Man but pleadsRead More →

Movie Trailer: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Director: Mark Webb Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Dane DeHaan, Chris Cooper, Sally Field, Denis Leary The 2012 reboot The Amazing Spider-Man seemed a bit too soon to revitalize a franchise with a brand new cast. While I did not think the film was that strong overall, director Mark Webb and his cast did a decent job at setting the groundwork for some exciting new Spidey stories. The new teaser trailer has been released and naturally is long enough and filled with enough footage that it feels like your standard trailer. The new film brings in ChrisRead More →

THE 70th GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD NOMINATIONS

THE 70th GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD NOMINATIONS The Golden Globes are another great night of rewarding the best of the silver screen over the past year. The awards are handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and are typically the “party” awards. All of the nominees and presenters are basically drinking around their dinner tables all night long. It’s even better when a presenter has had too much and slurs the names he/she is reading off the teleprompter. Clink on any of the links to read my reviews of the nominated movies. Here’s a look at this year’s nominees: BEST MOTION PICTURE-DRAMA 1. ARGO 2.Read More →

Movie Review: LINCOLN

LINCOLN Director: Steven SpielbergStarring: Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jared Harris, David Strathairn, James Spader, John Hawkes, Tim Blake Nelson If you go into Lincoln expecting to see Steven Spielberg’s take on his assassination, you are going into the wrong movie. You will also not see a movie focused on his whole presidency making you feel like you are back in history class seeing a badly narrated movie. Even though the assassination is included, Spielberg and screenwriter Tony Kushner focus their film on Lincoln’s (Day-Lewis) battle to pass the 13th amendment to abolish slavery. Lincoln was opposed to slavery and neededRead More →

AMC Theatre’s Q&A with Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis

AMC Theatre’s Q&A with Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis Lincoln hits theaters November 16th and this Spielberg fan will be there opening night. I started reading “Team of Rivals” by Doris Kearns Goodwin and am hoping to finish by the film’s release date. For anyone new to Lincoln, screenwriter Tony Kushner based her screenplay on portions of Goodwin’s book. AMC Theatres hosted a live Q&A with director Steven Spielberg and star Daniel Day-Lewis after a screening of the film. They give an insightful look into the preparations of making this huge movie. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers discussed. Here’s the video:Read More →
