Movie Review: AD ASTRA

AD ASTRA Director: James GrayStarring: Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Donald Sutherland, Kimberly Elise, Lisa Gay Hamilton, John Ortiz Brad Pitt gives one of the best films of his career in Ad Astra. He plays renowned NASA astronaut Roy McBride whose latest mission becomes personal as it involves his father (Lee) who also served as a NASA astronaut but went missing in space decades prior. News quietly spreads that solar rays coming from Neptune are causing power surges on Earth. They believe this may mean that Roy’s father may still be alive. Here’s my reviewRead More →

Movie Review: JASON BOURNE

JASON BOURNE Director: Paul Greengrass Starring: Matt Damon, Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel, Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, Riz Ahmed It’s been nine years since Matt Damon donned the identity of Jason Bourne, and boy does it feel great to have him back in such a memorable role. Bourne has been lying low passing his days as a rough street boxer. Julia Stiles is also back as Nicky Parsons, Bourne’s contact regarding the Treadstone Project. She’s at her rope’s end and wants to expose the CIA for all of their secretive wrongdoings. She’s caught in Iceland transferring a massive amount of Black Ops files, which leadsRead More →

THE 19th SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARD WINNERS

THE 19th SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARD WINNERS As an actor, I love watching the Screen Actors Guild Awards. I am not a member of SAG/AFTRA so I am not an actual voter, but I have some friends that are members so it was fun hearing them talk about the movies they have gotten in the mail to watch. Actors love getting these awards as they sometimes mean the most to them as they are being awarded by their fellow actors and peers. Here is a list of the winners from the 19th SAG Awards: OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A CAST IN A MOTION PICTURE The CastRead More →

THE 70th GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD NOMINATIONS

THE 70th GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD NOMINATIONS The Golden Globes are another great night of rewarding the best of the silver screen over the past year. The awards are handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and are typically the “party” awards. All of the nominees and presenters are basically drinking around their dinner tables all night long. It’s even better when a presenter has had too much and slurs the names he/she is reading off the teleprompter. Clink on any of the links to read my reviews of the nominated movies. Here’s a look at this year’s nominees: BEST MOTION PICTURE-DRAMA 1. ARGO 2.Read More →

THE 19th ANNUAL SAG AWARD NOMINATIONS

THE 19th ANNUAL SAG AWARD NOMINATIONS The Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations have been announced! They are usually the strongest indicators of who will be nominated for an Oscar. The SAG winners often times walk away with the coveted Oscar as well. There are always exceptions to that as well. There are only a couple of surprises here. Javier Bardem and Nicole Kidman received nominations beating out the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Amy Adams, or Jacki Weaver. No actors from Django Unchained received any recognition. The cast of Zero Dark Thirty was not recognized even though Jessica Chastain received a Best Actress nomination.Read More →

Movie Review: LINCOLN

LINCOLN Director: Steven SpielbergStarring: Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jared Harris, David Strathairn, James Spader, John Hawkes, Tim Blake Nelson If you go into Lincoln expecting to see Steven Spielberg’s take on his assassination, you are going into the wrong movie. You will also not see a movie focused on his whole presidency making you feel like you are back in history class seeing a badly narrated movie. Even though the assassination is included, Spielberg and screenwriter Tony Kushner focus their film on Lincoln’s (Day-Lewis) battle to pass the 13th amendment to abolish slavery. Lincoln was opposed to slavery and neededRead More →

AMC Theatre’s Q&A with Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis

AMC Theatre’s Q&A with Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis Lincoln hits theaters November 16th and this Spielberg fan will be there opening night. I started reading “Team of Rivals” by Doris Kearns Goodwin and am hoping to finish by the film’s release date. For anyone new to Lincoln, screenwriter Tony Kushner based her screenplay on portions of Goodwin’s book. AMC Theatres hosted a live Q&A with director Steven Spielberg and star Daniel Day-Lewis after a screening of the film. They give an insightful look into the preparations of making this huge movie. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers discussed. Here’s the video:Read More →

Movie Review: CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER Director: Joe Johnston Starring: Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Stanley Tucci, Haley Atwell, Tommy Lee Jones Steve Rogers (Evans) is short and scrawny, but he is determined to enlist in World War II. He tries to enlist four different times using false information but is rejected each time due to his stature and asthma. On his fifth attempt, Dr. Abraham Erskine (Tucci) allows him to enlist as part of an experiment to create a “super-soldier”. Steve agrees because he will do anything to fight for his country. In front of a panel of scientists and war officials, Steve is hooked upRead More →
