Movie Review: EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL, AND VILE

EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL, AND VILE Director: Joe BerlingerStarring: Zac Efron, Lily Collins, Jim Parson, John Malkovich, Haley Joel Osment, Angela Sarafyan Zac Efron takes his career in a bold turn by starring as notorious serial killer Ted Bundy. The film picks up the night he met his girlfriend, Liz (Collins), in a dive bar. He’s charming and a smoother talker and convinces her to spend the night together back at her house. He’s studying law, while she is a single mother with a young baby girl. He appears to be loving and caring, but that happens to be just one side of him. TheRead More →

Movie Review: THE GREATEST SHOWMAN

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN Director: Michael Gracey Starring: Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Zendaya, Michelle Williams, Zendaya I grew up with a deep love of musicals and have a music theater background. The Greatest Showman should be right up my alley. Lights, spectacle, jazz hands, and a winning cast should make for a great movie going experience. It was apparent from the opening number that something was amiss. It introduces us to Hugh Jackman as showman P.T. Barnum and a production under the circus big top with a rock style sound to it. We then cut to P.T. as a kid demonstrating he always had a wildRead More →

Movie Review: THE DISASTER ARTIST

THE DISASTER ARTIST Director: James Franco Starring: James Franco, Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, Jacki Weaver, Alison Brie, Ari Graynor, Josh Hutcherson, Jerrod Carmichael, Jason Mantzoukas, Zac Efron, Bob Odenkirk The other night I watched the cult classic film The Room from Tommy Wiseau. The 2003 film is notoriously lauded as one of the worst films of all time. I can attest that the rhetoric behind it is unquestionably true. The performances are terrible, the dialogue is laughable, and there are continuity errors and focusing problems throughout. It’s one of those midnight movies you watch with a crowd to laugh with and revel in its lunacy.Read More →

Movie Review: BAYWATCH

BAYWATCH Director: Seth Gordon Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Priyanka Chopra, Kelly Rohrbach, Jon Bass, Hannibal Buress, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Oscar Nuñez If you go into Baywatch expecting arthouse cinema or even an original plot, you’re doing it wrong. This is a bro-style movie through and through as it caters to that demographic in every possible way. Dwayne Johnson is head lifeguard Mitch Buchanan who is basically a legend at the Bay. He’s spent his career building up his legendary and mythical reputation. It’s the start of the summer season and the Bay is hosting tryouts for new lifeguard recruits. Mitch meets hisRead More →

Movie Review: MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES

MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES Director: Jake Szymanski Starring: Zac Efron, Adam Devine, Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, Stephen Root, Stephanie Faracy, Sugar Lyn Beard, Marc Maron, Kumail Nanjiani We’ve all been to that wedding where there’s some obnoxious family member or groomsman that’s had one too many drinks at the open bar and proceeds to make a scene. Zac Efron and Adam Devine (Pitch Perfect) are those kinds of guys in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. Apparently this film is “inspired by the life stories” of two brothers who consider themselves “party creators” at these types of family functions. Mike Stangle (Devine) isRead More →

Movie Review: NEIGHBORS 2: SORORITY RISING

NEIGHBORS 2: SORORITY RISING Director: Nicholas Stoller Starring: Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, Selena Gomez, Chloë Grace Moretz, Dave Franco, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Lisa Kudrow Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising is that sequel that you didn’t really expect to happen after the first film ended. This film is proof it still isn’t necessary despite the huge box office draw of the first film. The last time we saw Kelly (Byrne) and Mac (Rogen) Radner they made peace with frat boy Teddy (Efron) and his clan of partygoers. Everyone seems to be moving on from their days of ruining each other’s lives. Teddy is at a crossroadsRead More →

Movie Review: NEIGHBORS

NEIGHBORS Director: Nicholas Stoller Starring: Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jerrod Carmichael, Lisa Kudrow Let me get this straight. Seth Rogen plays a pot smoking guy looking to reclaim his youth. Zac Efron plays a ridiculously chiseled college guy. These are some bold casting choices. Mac (Rogen) and Kelly (Byrne) Radner have moved into a warm neighborhood with their new baby girl and are looking forward to the next stage of their lives. They see a young gay couple moving in down the block and think they have really found the right neighborhood for them. That joyous feeling comes toRead More →

Movie Review: THAT AWKWARD MOMENT

THAT AWKWARD MOMENT Director: Tom Gormican Starring: Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, Imogen Poots, Mackenzie Davis, Jessica Lucas Thank God I enjoy these three actors because these types of “bromance” movies can be a bit much. Mikey (Jordan) is probably the most successful one of our guys. He works as a full time doctor and seemed to have it all. He got married at a really young age, and now his wife Vera (Lucas) wants a divorce and is sleeping with her lawyer. His two best friends Jason (Efron) and Daniel (Teller) are still living the single life and are excited to haveRead More →

Movie Trailer: PARKLAND

PARKLANDDirector: Peter LandesmanStarring: Zac Efron, Jacki Weaver, Marcia Gay Harden, Billy Bob Thornton, Paul Giamatti, Tom Welling, Ron Livingston, Jackie Earl Haley If you are familiar with the more specific details of the JFK assassination, you know that Parkland refers to the Parkland Hospital where President Kennedy was rushed to after the shooting. He eventually died there along with his assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Oswald’s assassin, Jack Ruby. The star-studded film is based on the book “Four Days in November” by Vincent Bugliosi and is a multi-storied look into the aftermath of the Kennedy assassination. The studio is advertising it as “the story you know,Read More →

Movie Rewind: THE PAPERBOY

THE PAPERBOY (2012) Director: Lee Daniels Starring: Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman, John Cusack It is the summer of 1969 and it is one hell of a scorcher out there. “God must have been sweating it was so hot”, proclaims Anita Chester (Gray). Sherriff Call killed so many of the African-Americans in this small Florida town that even the white people were afraid of him. That is until the day he wound up dead. She introduces all of the key players in this tale of sweat, murder, and the wrongful imprisonment of the man accused of the murder of Sherriff Call. At the time,Read More →
