Nomadland was the big winner in the film categories taking home four awards (Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography) as the love for Chloe Zhao’s film continues to shine through. Chadwick Boseman and Daniel Kaluuya continued their winning streaks after winning the Golden Globe and now the Critics Choice. Carey Mulligan and Maria Bakalova took home Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. The best speech of the night may just have to go to Alan Kim, the young star of Minari. He was so happy he burst into tears when accepting his award for Best Young Actor/Actress. How will this shake up the Oscars and SAGs? It’s still anyone’s game for many of the categories. I think Boseman and Kaluuya are the only real strong frontrunners at this point.
The ceremony was virtual leading to some shaky internet connections and delayed acceptance speeches. This all makes sense given nominees were zooming in live from multiple countries and time zones across the world. Here’s hoping we can all be in person for next year’s ceremonies.
