This year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards was an abbreviated, one-hour ceremony that was previously recorded. Leaks had been making the rounds on Twitter, but I didn’t give them any notice. Now that the winners have been announced, further actors have paved their way closer to the Oscar like Daniel Kaluuya and Chadwick Boseman. The biggest surprise of the night may be Viola Davis winning Best Actress. It makes the race for Oscar unpredictable having Andra Day win the Golden Globe, Carey Mulligan winning the Critics Choice, and now Viola Davis winning the SAG. I also loved seeing Yuh-Jung Youn win Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in Minari. I would love to see her win the Oscar. SAG winners are frequent Oscar winners given the cross over in the number of actor that are also part of the Academy’s acting branch. You still have a few more weeks to watch the Oscar-nominated films. Make your lists and enjoy the movies!
