CELEBRATING BLACK FILMMAKERS

CELEBRATING BLACK FILMMAKERS February marks Black History Month, which is something that should be celebrated more than one month out of every year. That being said, now is the perfect time to invest in Black filmmakers who strive to create art, not only as entertainment but as a lens on Black culture and Black history. The more we celebrate and invest in these films, the more studios will realize that there is an appetite and need for these films and to not merely see them as niche material. Here are some some of the best Black filmmakers working today and a selection of their work.Read More →

Movie Review: DA 5 BLOODS

DA 5 BLOODS Director: Spike LeeStarring: Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock, Jr., Chadwick Boseman, Paul Walter Hauser, Mélanie Thierry, Jasper Pääkkönen  Spike Lee finally won his first Oscar for writing BlacKkKlansman back in 2018. In my opinion, he was robbed of Best Picture. Maybe we can reverse some wrongs with his new powerful new film Da 5 Bloods. The film centers on four Vietnam war vets played by Delroy Lindo, Isiah Witlock Jr, Clarke Peters and Norm Lewis. They’ve reunited in Vietnam for the first time in order to reclaim the body of their fallen soldier and brother Stormin’ Norman playedRead More →

PAUL PREDICTS THE OSCAR WINNERS (Some of them…)

PAUL PREDICTS THE OSCAR WINNERS (Some of them…) It’s been quite the year when it comes to Oscars 2019. It think it’s going to go down in the books as the most controversial, disastrous, and unpredictable lead up to the big night. The Academy has had to back track on many decisions in terms of their telecast and their desperate ploy to cut the run time down to three hours. No need to get into all of those bumpy bricks in the road at this point. Let’s focus in on eight of the categories. Here are my predictions of who will win on Sunday andRead More →

Movie Review: BLACKKKLANSMAN

BLACKKKLANSMAN Director: Spike Lee Starring: John David Washington, Adam Driver, Topher Grace, Laura Harrier, Alec Baldwin, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Robert John Burke, Frederick Weller I would love to see BlackKklansman showered with awards consideration. Spike Lee delivers a powerful epic that’s based on a true story set in 1972 and parallels 2017. It deserves strong work of mouth to get people talking about its impact. Here’s my reviewRead More →
