If you loved Red, White, & Royal Blue, then you’ll want to check out A Nice Indian Boy if you want another endearing love story. This has been adapted from the play by Madhuri Shekar. It’s inspired by his own journey of finding love set against Indian culture. Karan Soni stars as Naveen, a smart, cute doctor whose fairly guarded with his private life. He’s attending his sister’s wedding and facing the endless chorus of reminders that he will have a big Indian wedding someday. Most people think he’s straight, and he’s feeling a little guarded at stating that he’s gay and that he might not be having that big traditional wedding. Naveen first meets Jay at temple, but it’s a brief encounter that doesn’t lead to anything in that moment. Jay’s played by Tony-winner Jonathan Groff. Fate would come into play a little later when Jay shows up at Naveen’s hospital as the hired photographer taking employee head shots. Jay initiates the first date where Naveen learns he was adopted by Indian parents and shares similar cultural traditions. Their relationship seems to be going fine, but Naveen struggles with telling his parents and sister about his relationship with Jay. In theaters
