Wildfires ravage the residents of California every year, and the new film The Lost Bus takes audiences smack dab into the harrowing rescue efforts of one of the worst fires in the state’s history. It’s November 2018 in Paradise, California. They’re going through a horrible dry spell with wildfire warnings cautioning residents. Matthew McConaughey stars as Kevin McKay, a school bus driver attending to his routes while feeling the weight of the world at him. He represents your every man, just trying to get by with the hand he’s been dealt. He’s trying to pay the bills, raise his teenage son and care for his ailing mother. McConaughey’s real life son, Levi, and mother, Kay, play his son and mother in the film making this a family affair. On November 8, the dry weather and winds caused some electric cables to snap falling to the ground and immediately a fire broke out due to the dry brush and leaves. It escalates quickly in an area where Cal Fire has a hard time containing it. It’s a race against the clock as the residents of Paradise desperately try to escape their homes. Meanwhile at East Paradise Elementary School, 23 kids are left without their parents able to pick them up. America Ferrera stars as their teacher, Mary, trying to keep them calm. Kevin is the only school bus driver near the area who can rescue them and hopefully get them to safety. He must choose between his family at home who need him and these school kids who need him.
