Scream 7 made a killing at the box office becoming the highest grossing film in the franchise with $121 million dollars earned so far. It was the first film to be released in IMAX and other large premium formats. Fans were excited to see the return of final girl Sidney Prescott under the direction of Kevin Williamson who created these iconic characters.
Ghostface has been stalking moviegoers for 30 years now since Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and Drew Barrymore revitalized the horror genre back in 1996. Now, he’s back for more blood in Scream 7. One of the best parts of the Scream franchise is its continued through line of the same characters and story since the beginning. Courteney Cox has appeared as Gale Weathers in every film. Neve Campbell stepped away from Scream 6 and now makes her triumphant return for a Sidney-focused story in 7. The history and relationships between these characters over the course of thirty years gives this franchise its depth and weight that most horror franchises lose early on. Sidney Prescott has put Woodsboro behind her. She lives in another small town raising three kids including teenage daughter Tatum (May) with her loving and supporting husband Mark (McHale). Gale is now an independent journalist who has hired twins Chad and Mindy as her interns. Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are back as the twins who also appeared in Scream 5 and 6. It’s anniversary of sorts that brings the past back to haunt them when Ghostface finds Sidney and her family and the supposedly dead Stu Macher (Lillard) pops up in video messages to Sidney.
