PRACTICAL MAGIC
Hang onto your husbands and grab your midnight margaritas as Practical Magic is now on 4K thanks to a new release from Warner Bros Home Entertainment. Now is the perfect time to pick it up and give it a rewatch before Practical Magic 2 hits theaters on September 10.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman star as Sally and Gillian Owens, respectively. They come from a family of witches and grow up in a New England town with their two aunts (Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing). They were inseparable growing up but went their separate ways into adulthood. Sally vows to give up magic while raising her two daughters, but Gillian finds herself in a heap of trouble and relies on her sister and aunts to hide a dead body. Aidan Quinn stars as the local sheriff who is trying to get to the bottom of what happened, but can’t seem to figure out what’s going on with these Owens sisters.
Practical Magic is adapted from the novel by Alice Hoffman and directed by Griffin Dunne. It’s a wonderful film that has gained a huge cult following in the 28 years since its release. I can’t believe its been that long. This story of sisterhood, family, and magic has really resonated with audiences. Kidman and Bullock have an effortless chemistry together, despite being somewhat different types of actresses. It’s pretty staggering when you think how far both of their careers have come since then. There’s so much heart and humor to this film, as it really balances its tone nicely. And the soundtrack is fantastic!
