Sometimes you watch a movie, and you know there’s a good movie in there somewhere. That’s how I felt watching Unabomber. After years of anonymous packages being sent with deadly consequences, Ted Kaczynski was finally caught and apprehended as the Unabomber. The film offers two timelines one with Shailene Woodley as Joanne Miller, an FBI agent who is part of the team investigating the Unabomber hoping to finally catch him after he publishes his manifesto in 1995. She’s in a male-dominated field and quickly realizes that they ignore her hunches and the connections she’s making from the manifesto. The other timeline is in 1958 with a teenage Ted Kaczynski, now played by Jacob Tremblay, who is attending Harvard taking a psych class from Professor Henry Murray (Crowe) It’s clear Ted is incredibly smart and gifted for someone his age. He’s not getting the support he needs from his dad and has strong ideals for society and people having their own autonomy. He becomes part of a scientific experiment at Harvard warps his own mindset.
