WICKER
Directors: Alex Huston Fischer, Eleanor Wilson
Starring: Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård, Richard E. Grant, Elizabeth Debicki, Peter Dinklage, Nabhaan Rizwan
I can guarantee you haven’t seen an on-screen romance like the one you’ll see in the new film Wicker. Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgard are at the center of the film. Ursula Wills’s short story, The Wicker Husband, is the basis for this film which may give you a better understanding of what to expect. Olivia Colman stars as The Fisherwoman who lives a single and lonely life in a small little village. The characters in this film aren’t given names but rather referred to by their occupations. She’s sick and tired of being mocked by the other girls and women in town. She goes to the local Basketmaker (Dinklage) and asks for him to make her a husband. He’s intrigued by the proposition, but nonetheless he delivers and the Wicker Husband is brought to life with Alexander Skarsgård playing the unique character. It’s an innocent love at first sight between the two of them. He’s the ideal partner as he is handy around the house, and they have ferocious, bed-breaking sex. His presence is not kept a secret and now word spreads throughout the village. Elizabeth Debicki stars as The Tailor’s Wife whose jealousy and anger makes for complicated relations all around.
