THE BATMAN
Director: Matt Reeves
Starring: Robert Pattinson, Colin Farrell, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright
Today is #DCFanDome where DC unveils all sorts of fun footage, concept art, trailers, and more for many of their anticipated releases. During last year’s event, we got the first teaser of director Matt Reeves (The Planet of the Apes trilogy) take on Batman. Robert Pattinson steps into the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, as Reeves take a noir approach to telling Batman’s early days. He’s drawing inspiration from the graphic novel Batman: Year One
We’re now getting the first full trailer and it looks fantastic. Matt Reeves, Robert Pattinson, and Zoe Kravitz introduced the trailer sharing a few behind the scenes details with some video. Reeves described Bruce Wayne as “A reckless rockstar in a decaying manner.” He acknowledged that we’ve seen many origin stories for these characters but wanted to ground them in a new manner. We get a glimpse of Paul Dano as The Riddler who seems to pose as the film’s main villain while also showcasting Colin Farrell as The Peguin and Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. All three of these “villains” certainly don’t look like the traditional comic book style we’ve seen from them before. Gotham City looks dark, rainy, and full corruption. I’m feeling positive about Reeve’s vision and Pattinson’s take on the Caped Crusader.
The Batman arrives in theaters March 4, 2022
