Movie Review: RINGS

RINGS Director: F. Javier Gutiérrez Starring: Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Vincent D’Onofrio, Bonnie Morgan , Aimee Teegarden I’d like to think that I pay close enough attention to pop culture, specifically film, to know what is trendy and popular. I don’t remember reading or hearing about a move to keep making additional entries in The Ring franchise. The first film was released in 2002 and was a remake of a Japanese film. It spawned a sequel in 2005, and somehow now we have a follow-up sequel. It isn’t necessarily a reboot as it acknowledges there is a past to this story.Read More →

Movie Review: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Director: Antoine Fuqua Starring: Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Peter Sarsgaard, Byung-hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Martin Sensmeier, Haley Bennett, Matt Bomer, Luke Grimes Within the same month I’ve seen two new westerns that have hit the big screen. The first was Hell or High Water, which is currently resting toward the top of my year end best list. Now comes the release of the remake of The Magnificent Seven, a movie that will not be on that list. It’s the late 1800s and the small town of Rose Creek is facing a bit of a dust up when industrialistRead More →

Movie Review: JURASSIC WORLD

JURASSIC WORLD Director: Colin Trevorrow Starring: Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Vincent D’Onofrio, BD Wong, Jake Johnson, Irrfan Khan, Judy Greer The original 1993 Steven Spielberg film, Jurassic Park, is a classic that has scared audiences for two decades. No sequel could ever top that film, but holy moly, the fourth film in the franchise comes closer to replicating that mix of awe, wonder, and fright that neither The Lost World nor Jurassic Park III could accomplish before. Twenty-two years have passed and John Hammond’s idea of having a dinosaur amusement park has become a fully realized attraction. Isla Nublar isRead More →

Movie Review: RUN ALL NIGHT

RUN ALL NIGHT Director: Jaume Collet-Serra Starring: Liam Neeson, Ed Harris, Joel Kinnaman, Boyd Holbrook, Vincent D’Onofrio, Bruce McGill So let me get this straight. Liam Neeson is starring in an action flick with a completely unoriginal title. The star of Taken, Unknown, Non-Stop, A Walk Among the Tombstones and a plethora of sequels is back for Run All Night, another film that seems to fit in quite well with every other film he’s done recently. It’s like he’s created his own mini-genre. He plays Jimmy “The Gravedigger” Conlon, a hitman with a long list of victims. Detective Harding (D’Onofrio) has been following Jimmy’s supposedRead More →

Movie Trailer: JURASSIC WORLD

JURASSIC WORLD Director: Colin Trevorrow Starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, BD Wong, Judy Greer, Ty Simpkins, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson Hold on to your butts! John Hammond’s (the late Richard Attenborough) original idea for a dinosaur theme park is now open and fully functional. The beginning of the trailer sets up the grand fun that can be had as a visitor. Behind closed doors, it appears the park’s scientists are working on a genetically mutated hybrid dinosaur. It all goes to hell from there. I’m holding out hope that this will be better than The Lost World or Jurassic Park 3. We have aRead More →

Movie Review: THE JUDGE

THE JUDGE Director: David Dobkin Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga, Billy Bob Thornton, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jeremy Strong, Dax Shepard, Leighton Meester, David Krumholtz, Ken Howard Tony Stark vs. Tom Hagen. Robert Downey Jr. vs Robert Duvall. They lead an all-star cast in the family legal drama, The Judge. Hank Palmer is that hotshot big city lawyer that never loses a case. As you’ve seen in the trailer, he’s so cocky he pees on his assistant (Krumholtz). Just before they are about to hear a verdict, he gets the dreaded phone call informing him that his mother has passed away. He drives backRead More →
