THE 89th ACADEMY AWARDS – THE WINNERS
That was on Oscars broadcast for the books! I went into the night thinking that we’d see a La La Land sweep. After it lost the first few categories, I knew we would be in a night of surprises. Justin Timberlake opened the show performing his rousing and catchy number from Trolls, which had everyone up and dancing in the aisles. Jimmy Kimmel was in pure Kimmel mode for his monologue. He was biting, funny, and easily kept the celebs in check. I can’t tell if Mel Gibson heard the jabs thrown at him, but they were spot-on. The BIG talk of the night came down to the winner of Best Picture. Bonnie and Clyde were reunited when Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty presented the award. They were somewhat stalling and confused while reading it, but we all assumed they were just making a comedic bit out of it by wanting to drag out the suspense. They announced the winner as La La Land, which came as no surprise. OH BUT WAIT!! There was some scuttle going down on stage with people frantically walking around as the producers and cast started their thank yous. Then it happens. La La Land producer Justin Horowitz claims that the REAL winner was Moonlight. There was a mixup with the envelopes. Pictures have been released showing that Faye and Warren were handed the Best Actress envelope again which read Emma Stone for La La Land. We were speechless at what was going on. I feel bad there was such a mix up and bad for the La La Land team thinking they won, but I am elated that Moonlight and the story it tells wins Best Picture this year.
