Movie Review: MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN

Director: Edward NortonStarring: Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Alec Baldwin, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Willem Dafoe, Bobby Cannavale, Cherry Jones, Dallas Roberts Edward Norton wrote, directed, and stars in the new film, Motherless Brooklyn. He plays Lionel, a man who suffers from Tourette’s Syndrome while working as a private investigator. One day on the job, he witnesses to the death of his mentor (Willis) then has to use his incredible memory from that tragic day to find out who was behind the murder. Here’s my reviewRead More →

Movie Review: BLACKKKLANSMAN

BLACKKKLANSMAN Director: Spike Lee Starring: John David Washington, Adam Driver, Topher Grace, Laura Harrier, Alec Baldwin, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Robert John Burke, Frederick Weller I would love to see BlackKklansman showered with awards consideration. Spike Lee delivers a powerful epic that’s based on a true story set in 1972 and parallels 2017. It deserves strong work of mouth to get people talking about its impact. Here’s my reviewRead More →

Movie Review: CONCUSSION

CONCUSSION Director: Peter Landesman Starring: Will Smith, Alec Baldwin, David Morse, Albert Brooks, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mike O’Malley I’ll be upfront about my knowledge of football. I know very little. My background comes through the television show Friday Night Lights and other football movies. The NFL did not have a good year after the Ray Rice incident, the Adrian Peterson incident, and Tom Brady’s Deflategate. Now comes Concussion to further cement the negative aspects of the organization that tend to get covered up. Dr. Bennett Omalu (Smith) is a forensic pathologist originally from Nigeria who now lives in Pittsburgh. He holds multiple master’s degrees and certificates.Read More →

Movie Review: MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-ROGUE NATION

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-ROGUE NATION Writer/Director: Christopher McQuarrie Starring: Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, Simon McBurney It’s been nearly twenty years and Tom Cruise is still laughing in the face of danger as he continues his successful run as Ethan Hunt. His core team, the IMF, is the target of two different organizations. Alec Baldwin’s Hunley and the rest of the CIA are hoping to shut them down due to due to their unorthodox methods. Hunt’s bigger problem is with another group, known as The Syndicate. They have received the identities of his fellow teammates including Benji (Pegg) and BrandtRead More →

Movie Review: ALOHA

ALOHA Writer/Director: Cameron Crowe Starring: Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, Bill Murray, Alec Baldwin, Danny McBride Hawaii provides a picturesque backdrop and cultural lesson in the latest film from writer/director Cameron Crowe (Say Anything, Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous). Bradley Cooper leads an A-list cast as Brian Gilcrest, a military contractor who arrives at an Air Force base in Honolulu. He is tasked with getting the blessing from local citizens to build a gate and launch a weapons satellite. Upon arrival on the base, it’s a reunion for Brian and his ex-girlfriend Tracy (McAdams) who haven’t seen each other in thirteen years. She has sinceRead More →

Movie Trailer: MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-ROGUE NATION

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-ROGUE NATION Director: Christopher McQuarrie Starring: Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Alec Baldwin, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson Tom Cruise has hit a bit of a rough patch over the last decade. I found Edge of Tomorrow enjoyable, but unfortunately, it didn’t have the big box office draw it should have had. He manages to win over audiences when he plays Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible films. I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed the last one, Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol. Cruise pulls no punches by his death-defying stunt work in each film, and the latest in this twenty year old franchiseRead More →

Movie Review: STILL ALICE

STILL ALICE Directors: Richard Glatzer, Wash Westmoreland Starring: Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth, Hunter Parrish It’s a pretty easy claim to make that Julianne Moore is one of the best actresses working today. I got into a pretty lengthy Facebook thread with some friends the other night about the superior performances she has given over the years with the likes of The Hours, Far From Heaven, Magnolia, Game Change, and Boogie Nights coming to mind. In Still Alice, she may just give her best performance to date, and that’s saying something given her body of work. She plays Alice Howland, a linguisticsRead More →

Movie Review: ELAINE STRITCH SHOOT ME

ELAINE STRITCH SHOOT ME Director: Chiemi Karasawa Starring: Elaine Stritch, Rob Bowman, Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, James Gandolfini, John Turturro There she is in her white button down shirt with black tights with no pants singing, “I’m Still Here” from Follies. It seems like the perfect song for her. Like every song Elaine Stritch sings, she makes it fit for her and where she is at in this moment of her life. Her rendition of “I Feel Pretty” is not like the one you grew up hearing. Legendary Broadway actress Elaine Stritch is not known for being a shy, private, or hidden person. Even atRead More →

Movie Review: BLUE JASMINE

BLUE JASMINE Writer/Director: Woody Allen Starring: Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Sally Hawkins, Andrew Dice Clay, Louis C.K., Bobby Cannavale, Peter Sarsgaard, Michael Stuhlbarg Cate Blanchett. Cate Blanchett. Cate Blanchett. She has portrayed Elizabeth I, Katherine Hepburn, Bob Dylan, Galadriel the Elf, and was the object of Judi Dench’s affection. All fantastic performances, yet one of the most riveting portrayals comes in Woody Allen’s latest, Blue Jasmine. Jasmine (Blanchett) is trying to start a new life. She leaves New York and moves to San Francisco to live with her sister, Ginger (Hawkins). They are both adopted and could not be any more different. Ginger believes Jasmine wasRead More →
