GOODBYE JUNE
Director: Kate Winslet
Starring: Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, Johnny Flynn, Timothy Spall, Fisayo Akinade
Kate Winslet has had a full career winning an Oscar (The Reader) and Emmys (Mildred Pierce, Mare of Eastown) for her work on screen. She’s now adding director to her resume with the new film Goodbye June. Kate Winslet not only directed the film but also stars as Julia, a busy mom who’s trying to keep everything in order and organized before the holidays. She gets a call from her younger brother, Connor (Johnny Flynn), that their mother, June (Mirren), is being rushed to the hospital. She’s facing a setback in her cancer journey. Julia and her siblings all have their own lives, and there’s a fractured relationship with her sister, Molly (Andrea Riseborough). It’s been years since they’ve seen each other. Molly is married and has kids but is a bit high strung and frantic. On the opposite side is sister Helen, the free-spirited, yoga instructor who is ready to sage and cleanse the hospital of all bad energy. Toni Collette is perfectly cast as Helen. The entire family gathers to spend one last holiday as a whole family while processing the reality of June’s condition. Now in limited release and will be streaming on Netflix on December 24
