James Gunn has proven himself at adapting comic book stories for the screen with the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, Peacemaker, and The Suicide Squad. He’s now the head of DC Studios and taking his turn at Superman. James Gunn isn’t doing another Superman origin story, as he knows we’ve already seen that on screen many times before. Instead, he opens the film mid-battle for Superman. He’s already a hero trying to save Metropolis. David Corenswet is the latest actor in the coveted role of Clark Kent and Superman, and he’s now left for dead in the frozen tundra. The man behind this battle is Lex Luthor, played terrifically by Nicholas Hoult. He’s a tech billionaire who has created an army of ultrahumans that he’s named “Planet Watch”. He’s desperate and hoping to use the government for his own financial gain. He’s also spreading rumors in the media by using altered footage claiming Superman was sent to destroy Earth and the human population. Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane who knows the truth around the identity of Superman and Clark Kent. She will stop at nothing to help and protect Superman every step of the way. The film also stars Wendell Pierce as Daily Planet boss Perry White and Skyler Gisondo as reporter Jimmy Olsen. In theaters
