THE LITTLE MERMAID
Director: Rob Marshall
Starring: Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Noma Dumezweni, Javier Bardem
There may be a saturation of the Disney live action remakes of their beloved animated films. It’s hard not to be all in when the cast is as good as it is in The Little Mermaid. Pop star Halle Bailey has the daunting task of bringing Ariel the mermaid to life. Ariel has always been an independent free spirit with a fascination for humans. She’s been warned by her father, King Triton (Bardem), not to trust or go near the human population after they killed her mother. The two species don’t intermingle. A horrible storm capsizes a fishing boat leaving Prince Eric sinking to the ocean floor. He’s played by the dashing Jonah Hauer-King. Ariel rescues him bringing him to shore only for it to be love at first sight. What she doesn’t know is that the evil sea witch Ursula (McCarthy) has something sinister brewing under the sea. She makes Ariel an offer of human legs in exchange for her beautiful voice. Ariel agrees but the clock is ticking and it’s up to her friends Sebastian, Scuttle and Flounder to get Ariel and Prince to kiss and fall in love. In theaters
